Circular Berlin, Circular Black Forest and the Steinbeis Consulting Center Circular Economy welcome the European Commission’s initiative to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy through the proposed Circular Economy Act (CEA).
A framework for systemic circular transformation
The draft Act marks an important step towards a more circular Europe. To achieve real impact, it needs to go beyond sectoral measures and create a comprehensive and enforceable framework that links economic incentives, governance and education with concrete support for local and regional ecosystems.
The joint statement calls for EU-wide harmonisation of standards that enable innovation in reuse, repair and circular business models. It highlights the need for incentives that value durability, repair and service-based solutions in the same way as recycled content. It also recommends targeted investment programmes that empower small and medium-sized enterprises and regional networks to drive circular solutions. Finally, it calls for education and awareness initiatives that strengthen circular literacy and make the diversity of circular strategies visible.
Circular Berlin, Circular Black Forest and Steinbeis emphasise that the circular economy should be understood as a systemic societal transition that redefines how value is created, shared and sustained across markets and communities.
