What our members say

“Circular Berlin is a place for meeting fascinating people who have lots of cool ideas and valuable experiences in making  the Circular Economy happen. I found our project partners for an innovative circular economy training program in the Circular Berlin community, as well as our graphic designer for the final project report. Looking forward to the next collaboration to make cities more circular.“

Martin Stavenhagen, Climate Policy Specialists

member

“What I value most is that Circular Berlin is driven by purpose, not profit — bringing international expertise into an open, supportive network that genuinely enjoys working together. It is a space where ideas turn into action and waste becomes a resource. “

Nicole Bendsen, Advisor for Socio-Ecological Transformation, Circular Economy and Organisational Development

member, team

“I joined Circular Berlin at the end of 2020 and my focus in the community is to support the construction team and projects. It is a very interesting mix of people: on the one hand it is a local organisation with emphasis on Berlin, and on the other hand many members have an international background with a huge variety of expertise. Within the first months of joining quite a few initiatives and projects have already kicked off. “

Patrick Teuffel, Circular Structural Design

“At Circular, I have found a community of values and a place where I can realize my desire to help shape a future worth living.
It’s great to work in a team that is characterized by mutual appreciation, constant curiosity, and a shared enthusiasm for new approaches.
What I like most about working for Circular Berlin is the combination of theoretical research and practical implementation in real laboratories in the city. “

Sarah Keller, Circular Designer & Sustainability Consultant

“Circular Berlin is a great place to meet like-minded people and professionals who share the same passion and energy for the circular economy. I loved that I can learn so much through the community and the resources that kept being developed by the organization and to have a chance to be among circular enthusiast peers. “

FAQs

We’ve got answers!

Take a look at the FAQ’s below to understand how our organisation works and what other opportunities for engagement we have.

How does Circular Berlin work as an e.V.?

We are a registered non-profit (Circular City – Zirkuläre Stadt e.V.). Unlike a consultancy, we operate as a “do-tank.” We prioritize open-source results and knowledge sharing across our 5 pillars to ensure our impact reaches the entire city, not just our clients.

Why do I have to pay a membership fee?

As a non-profit association, your fees ensure our independence. They allow us to advocate for better circular policies, maintain our open-source knowledge platform, and run the community operations that keep our network connected.

What is your membership fee structure?

Fees are based on the size of your organization to ensure accessibility. Fees are based on the size of your organization to ensure accessibility.

What is the difference between a Community Member and a Contributor?

A Community Member is a stakeholder who supports our mission through an annual fee and participates in our ecosystem.

Contributor is a dedicated volunteer who works alongside our core team to keep the organization running, by being involved in the circular economy activities of the organisation. Contributors usually focus on specific tasks like community management, research, or event production.

I want to be a Contributor. What is the expected commitment?

We welcome members who want to take an active role. Because this involves close collaboration, we have a few expectations:

Commitment: At least 4 hours per week.

Duration: A minimum involvement of 3+ months, starting with a 3-month trial period to find a joint routine.

Location: Based in Berlin with some weekday availability for team syncs. To apply, please send a written inquiry to the Core Team.

Do Contributors also pay a membership fee?

Yes. Because Circular Berlin is a non-profit association, everyone—including our core team and volunteers—is encouraged to be a member of the e.V. This ensures that everyone helping build the organization also has a formal voice in its governance

How do I become a Contributor?

Unlike the Community Membership (which you can join instantly), the Contributor role involves a brief “matching” process. Check our “Open Positions” or reach out to us with your CV and a note on which of our pillars, Market, Culture, or Governance, you are most passionate about or which expertises and support you want to bring to Circular Berlin, also across other topics e.g. Community or Education, or beyond it.
