Connecting Technology and Space for a Circular Economy

Connecting Technology and Space for a Circular Economy

How can industrial areas become drivers of a circular and resilient city?
The new Guide Book “Tech & Spaces for Circular Economy” explores this question by linking technological innovation with spatial transformation and shows how collaboration between sectors can turn urban industrial sites into future-proof ecosystems.

Developed by Circular Berlin and Creative Climate Cities in collaboration with WISTA Management GmbH, the publication marks the conclusion of  project Tech & Spaces for Circular Economy, funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Enterprises within the Masterplan Industriestadt Berlin.

At its core, the Guide Book demonstrates how technologies from optics, photonics, and material science can accelerate circular processes in sectors such as construction, electronics, textiles, and food. Combined with spatial strategies for innovation areas like Berlin Adlershof, it outlines how technology and space can reinforce each other – turning industrial sites into real-world laboratories for circular industry.

For Circular Berlin, the project highlights a key insight: circular transformation happens where cross-sector collaboration meets local ecosystems. Connecting technology clusters, businesses, and spatial planners unlocks new ways of designing and governing industrial areas. The Guide Book therefore serves as both a knowledge resource and a strategic blueprint for shaping the next generation of circular innovation spaces – in Berlin and beyond.
